WRITING

I. If you are asked to choose from any one of these toys which one do you choose? Give reasons. (plastic toys, wooden toys, clay toys, metallic toys)

Answer :

  • They feel cool and natural: Plastic toys sometimes feel a bit cheap or too smooth. Wooden toys have this nice, solid feel and you can see the grain of the wood. It just feels more real, you know?
  • They're usually super durable: I've had plastic toys break pretty easily, especially the ones with small parts. But wooden toys seem like they can handle a lot more rough play. I bet some of those old wooden toys my grandparents had are still around!
  • They're better for the planet (I think): I learned in science class that plastic can take a really long time to break down and can cause pollution. Wood, on the other hand, is natural, and if it's from a sustainable source, it feels like a better choice for the environment.
  • They can be really creative: Sure, some wooden toys are just simple blocks or cars. But with those simple things, you can build anything you imagine! Plastic toys often come with a specific purpose, but wooden ones are more open-ended.
  • They look kind of classic: There's something really nice about the look of wooden toys. They have a timeless quality, and they don't really go out of style like some of the super trendy plastic ones.

Clay toys are cool for making stuff, but they can break easily. Metallic toys can be fun, but sometimes they can be sharp or too heavy. Plastic is everywhere, but it just doesn't have the same appeal to me as wood.

So yeah, if I had to pick one, it would definitely be wooden toys! They're sturdy, natural, good for creativity, and just have a really nice vibe.

CREATIVE WRITING

K. You have prepared some eco-friendly craft materials like paper mache dolls, greeting cards, book marks, festoons, garlands, quilling jewellery etc for an Art Mela to be conducted in your school premises. Describe in a few sentences how you made the craft work. Include the following details in your writing.

 Name of the craft work

 Materials used

 Nature (handy / eco-friendly / longlasting / affordable price )

 Use (place / person / time)

Okay, so for the Art Mela, I made some really cool stuff that's also good for the planet!

First up, I made Paper Mache Dolls. For these, I used old newspapers that my dad was going to throw away, mixed them with water and some glue to make a pulp. Then, I shaped the pulp around some wire I found in the garage to make the doll shapes. Once they dried, I painted them with bright, non-toxic colors. They're eco-friendly because I used recycled paper, and they're pretty handy to play with or just keep as decorations in your room.

Next, I created Greeting Cards and Bookmarks. For the cards, I used thick brown paper that was leftover from a packaging box, and for the bookmarks, I cut up some old cereal boxes. I decorated them with dried flower petals and leaves I collected from the school garden, sticking them on with a bit of natural glue I made from flour and water. These are definitely eco-friendly and handy for sending messages to friends or keeping your place in books. Plus, they were super affordable to make!

For decorations, I made Festoons and Garlands. I used colorful fabric scraps that my mom had from old sewing projects. I cut them into different shapes like triangles and circles and then sewed them together to make long strings. These are eco-friendly because we reused old cloth, and they're great for decorating any place like our classrooms or the school hall during events. They're also pretty long-lasting if you store them carefully.

Finally, I tried making Quilling Jewellery like earrings and pendants. For this, I used thin strips of colored paper that I rolled and shaped into different designs. I even used some paper I made myself from old homework that had mistakes! I glued the shapes together and then attached earring hooks or strung them on old necklaces. This is eco-friendly because it uses paper, and it makes handy and unique accessories that you can wear anytime. It was also quite affordable since the main material is just paper!

I'm really excited to show everyone at the Art Mela how you can make cool things while also being kind to the environment!
