C. Long Answers (100–150 words):

1. Highlight the factors responsible for the all-women Indian Navy crew to carry out their expedition.
The successful expedition of the all-women Indian Navy crew was made possible due to a combination of courage, determination, and extensive preparation. The support from the Indian Navy and mentorship by Commander Dilip Donde played a vital role. The crew’s dedication to learning, their three years of rigorous training, and their strong teamwork contributed significantly. Emotional strength, problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt in extreme conditions helped them face unpredictable challenges. Most importantly, their desire to represent Indian women’s potential globally and break gender stereotypes gave them the motivation to complete the mission honestly, without external help. The country’s support also inspired them to push their limits.

2. Write in detail about the selection and training process which the crew underwent.
Out of thirty applicants, six women were selected for the expedition based on their survival skills and resilience. The selected crew went through extensive training over nearly three years. They began with theoretical courses on navigation, communication, and weather prediction, followed by practical training at the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre in Mumbai and in Kochi. They sailed on INSV Mhadei to Mauritius and Cape Town as part of their preparation. They also learned emergency medical skills, tactical handling, and equipment repair. Their training included managing food, water, and electricity shortages. This training not only built their technical knowledge but also strengthened their mental and physical endurance, preparing them for every challenge during their 254-day journey around the world.

I. Develop a story with the given pictures and narrate it to your class. Your story must have a plot and vivid details.

Title: "The Deep Sea Secret"

Once upon a time, a group of adventurous marine explorers boarded a ship boldly named “Probably Won’t Sink.” (Image 1) Despite the ironic name, the team of expert divers was eager to set out on a mission — they had received clues about a mysterious treasure lost beneath the sea.

Not long after they set sail, dark clouds gathered, and the sea turned rough. The ship began to tilt dangerously, and the crew realized their journey was off to a bumpy start. Fortunately, they reached a coral-rich zone and began their underwater exploration.

Diving into the deep blue, one of the explorers came across vibrant coral reefs teeming with life. (Image 2) Beautiful clownfish danced around sea anemones, and the diver admired the delicate underwater world, knowing that nature always held secrets.

As they swam further, they were startled to find a giant stone head — a forgotten relic from a sunken civilization. (Image 3) It was clear that the sea had stories to tell from centuries ago. The divers documented the discovery, realizing they were swimming through history.

Just as they were about to turn back, one of the team spotted something glittering in the sand. It was a chest — a treasure chest filled with ancient coins and jewels! (Image 4) The excitement was beyond words. They had found what many had searched for but never discovered.

The team returned to shore, exhausted but thrilled. (Image 5) With big smiles, they celebrated their unforgettable adventure. Not just because they found treasure, but because they explored the mysteries of the sea and came back stronger and more united.

The expedition was part of the Navika Sagar Parikrama project, aimed at promoting women empowerment and showcasing India's maritime capabilities.

The crew underwent rigorous three-year training at naval centers in Mumbai and Kochi. They faced numerous challenges including severe storms, equipment failures, and the psychological pressure of being constantly watched by the nation. Their success broke many stereotypes and proved that gender doesn't determine one's ability to achieve extraordinary feats.

The expedition also served environmental purposes by collecting meteorological data and monitoring marine pollution. The story emphasizes values of teamwork, honesty, determination, and national pride.

8. Evaluation

a) Lower Order Thinking Question (Knowledge/Comprehension)

Question: "What does INSV stand for, and when was INSV Tarini commissioned to the Indian Navy service?"

Expected Answer: INSV stands for Indian Naval Ship Vessel. INSV Tarini was commissioned to the Indian Navy service on 18 February 2017.

b) Middle Order Thinking Question (Application/Analysis)

Question: "Analyze the challenges faced by the crew during their expedition and explain how teamwork helped them overcome these difficulties."

Expected Answer: The crew faced storms with 9-10 meter high waves, equipment breakdowns, food and water management issues, and psychological pressure. Teamwork helped them by allowing different members to contribute their skills - some would heat water and gloves during storms while others maintained watch, they could discuss multiple solutions to problems, and they supported each other emotionally during difficult times.

c) Higher Order Thinking Question (Synthesis/Evaluation)

Question: "Evaluate the significance of this expedition for women empowerment in India and create a plan for how similar achievements can inspire more women to pursue challenging careers."

Expected Answer: This expedition broke gender stereotypes by proving women can handle extreme physical and mental challenges. It can inspire more women by: creating awareness programs in schools, establishing mentorship programs, providing equal opportunities in defense services, showcasing role models through media, and implementing policies that support women in non-traditional fields.

9. Remedial Teaching

Strategy for Slow Learners:

  1. Visual Aids: Use maps, pictures of the boat, and route diagrams to help visual learners understand the journey
  2. Simplified Language: Break down complex sentences into shorter, simpler ones
  3. Peer Support: Pair slow learners with advanced students for reading and discussion
  4. Repetition: Repeat key concepts multiple times using different examples
  5. Interactive Activities: Use role-play where students act as crew members discussing challenges
  6. Step-by-Step Approach: Break the lesson into smaller segments with frequent comprehension checks
  7. Audio Support: Read aloud important passages with proper emphasis and pacing
  8. Real-life Connections: Connect the story to students' own experiences of teamwork and overcoming challenges

10. Writing Activity (8 minutes)

Writing Task: "Imagine you are one of the crew members of INSV Tarini. Write a diary entry (150-200 words) describing one challenging day during your expedition. Include:

  3. Map Work: On a world map, trace the route taken by INSV Tarini and mark the four ports where they stopped

Extended Learning:

  1. Group Discussion: Organize a class debate on "Traditional gender roles vs. Modern opportunities for women"
