Dear Diary,

Today has been one of the most unforgettable days of my life! I can hardly believe what happened. I, Rucha, the one who always doubted myself, actually won the relay race in the inter-school sports meet!

At first, I was so nervous. I had seen that the final runner of Team A was known as ‘P.T. Usha’—she was fast and everyone expected her to win. But when Aruna handed me the baton, I remembered what Prakash Sir told me: “Think to win!” Those words gave me strength. I blocked out everything else and just focused on the finishing tape.

I ran with all my might and didn’t stop until I crossed the line. Everyone was cheering, and then Aruna told me, “Rucha, you have won!” I was filled with joy and disbelief. Even the girl from Springfields congratulated me. What an amazing moment!

Today, I learned that winning is not just about strength—it’s about believing in yourself. I can win, and now I truly believe it!

Good night, Diary.
Love,
Rucha

E. Discuss in class.

• How did Rucha overcome her self- doubts? How can shyness and fear be overcome?

Rucha overcame her self-doubts with constant encouragement, determination, and positive thinking. Initially, she lacked confidence and was overly cautious, always afraid of making mistakes or failing. However, with the help of her supportive PT instructor, Prakash Sir, and her friend Aruna, she gradually changed her mindset. Prakash Sir’s words—“Think to win!”—inspired her to focus on success rather than failure. She trained hard, pushed past her fear, and, during the relay race, remembered those motivating words. Instead of being scared of losing again, she concentrated only on reaching the finish line and gave her best.

Shyness and fear can be overcome through:

  • Positive self-talk and belief in one's abilities.
  • Supportive encouragement from friends, family, and mentors.
  • Practice and preparation, which build confidence.
  • Facing fears step-by-step, instead of avoiding challenges.
  • Focusing on goals rather than on possible failure.

By changing our mindset and being persistent, we can all move past our fears and grow stronger—just like Rucha did.
