    Yes, Black Beauty liked to pull the new cart as it was light and easy to roll.

    The weather was very windy with dry leaves blowing and it seemed it would rain.
  3. Describe the bridge.
    The bridge was low and flat with sturdy rails on both sides and crossed the river just above the water level.
  4. What was the alternate plan suggested by John to reach the wooden bridge?
    John suggested they return to four cross ways and take a longer route, about six miles, to reach the bridge again.
  5. Why was Black Beauty reluctant to cross the bridge?
    Black Beauty sensed that something was wrong with the bridge and instinctively refused to cross it.

Answer :

1.       What did the man at the toll gate on the other side tell them?
The man at the toll gate came running with a torch and shouted for them to stop. He warned that the middle part of the wooden bridge had been broken and washed away by the flood. If they had moved further, they would have fallen into the river and drowned. His timely warning confirmed Black Beauty’s instinct that something was wrong with the bridge.

2.       Was Black Beauty afraid to cross the bridge?
Yes, Black Beauty was afraid to cross the bridge. Though he was whipped and urged forward, his strong instinct told him that something was not safe. He stopped abruptly and refused to move forward even when John tried to lead him. His instinct saved all their lives.

3.       What did John think about human’s attitude towards animals?
John believed that many people did not treat animals properly or form a bond with them. He felt that animals had special knowledge or instinct that could save lives. He admired animals and felt people should take better care of them and treat them with kindness and understanding.

4.       What would have happened to all the three if Black Beauty had not been wiser?
If Black Beauty had not sensed the danger and refused to move forward, all three of them—Master, John, and Black Beauty—would have fallen into the river as the bridge was broken in the middle. They could have drowned in the floodwater.

5.       Where did John take Black Beauty and what did he give her?
John took Black Beauty to the stable after the journey. He gave her a good supper and made a thick, warm bed of straw for her to rest. He treated her with love and gratitude for saving their lives, and Black Beauty felt thankful for the care and rest.

6. How will you take care of your pets? Write about it in fifty words.

I will take care of my pets by feeding them on time and giving them clean water. I will keep them clean and healthy by regular grooming and visits to the vet. I will play with them, show them love, and never hurt or neglect them. They are part of my family.
